Topic: Filmfights Q&A! You've got questions, We've got answers.

Where can I download that awesome FF intro?

Download it right here. Remember, it's a requirement for entering!

Where did it all start?

Take a seat, and we'll open the Film Fights history book.  Film Fights was created way back in 2003 by long time online-filmmaker Justin Johnson.  The idea was to create a site dedicated to short films, and form a online competition, that anyone could be a part of.  Whether you're a professional who makes short movies in your off time, or someone who just makes films with your friends on the weekend, Film Fights is for everyone.  So don't be afraid to submit!

What are the rules?

If you've never submitted before, the rules are simple.  Each month, we're given a title, a genre, and a time limit.  You have one month to make the film, if the film is AWESOME, it will be put in the heavyweights section to compete with the other filmfighters' movies. If it's pretty good, but not quite as good as the other entries, you'll go into the Middleweights and your films will still be up for vote. If you don't abide by these rules, you will be doomed to the dreaded lightweights section, where your film cannot be voted on to win the fight, and you will be spit on and scoffed by the heavyweights, and disowned by your family. (Well, maybe not that last part)

What about copyrighted music and other legal problems?

We currently do not have any rules against using copyrights.  If there are issues, we will simply take down your video.  Film Fights does not take any responsibility for the content in your film.

How should I compress my film?

This is a good guide from Vimeo on how to encode at a good quality, and file size out of Quicktime.

I've submitted.  Now what do I do?

Take the time to watch and review all of the movies that week.  Film Fights thrives on feedback.  We want to hear what you thought of the movies as much as you want to know what people thought of your's.  Each month, to correlate with the fight, there will also be a Review show, shot by some Film Fights vets, and newcomers alike.

Anything else?

Have fun!  Make awesome films!  Have your friends and family come watch the films and vote on their favorites!  We're excited to have you be a part of Film Fights.  Now get out there and fight!

This is still in progress.  Any other questions?  Ask 'em here, and we'll answer 'em right away!

Re: Filmfights Q&A! You've got questions, We've got answers.

I noticed that my submission isn't listed as one of last months entries. Is that because I had it on youtube?

That one? Or are you referring to the "last fight's winner" area where the top 6 are shown?

Re: Filmfights Q&A! You've got questions, We've got answers.

I also noticed that I didn't win last month. This is obviously an error. j/k  big_smile

As a former RadioShack employee, and amateur brand copyright hobbyist, I am communicating through this forum post a cease and desist notice to you, Rex, to remove the protected slogan text from your topic title. I would accept, "You have got queries. We have got solutions for said queries."

Added "how to encode"

I'm very interested in starting up with some film fights soon. Will I still own the rights to my own films?

Good question - yes, you can still do whatever you want with your film! In fact, we encourage people to post their films everywhere they can, to spread the good word of Film Fights!

I have one question. How do you download the intro? I know this is probably easy but I just go to the link and theres a video but I don't know how to download it. I am planning on entering the turkey fight and I would like to get the intro.

Okay thanks Justin now I get it.

Re: Filmfights Q&A! You've got questions, We've got answers.

Hi there, just a quick question, should we avoid swearing, blood n guts and violence when considering a plot for one of the film fight challenges.

Re: Filmfights Q&A! You've got questions, We've got answers.

by all means, NO do not avoid either. Some people might give you shit if you swear too much, but fuck those people. wink

I would avoid being douchey, though. Sometimes swearing can come off as douchey, depending on the context.

Re: Filmfights Q&A! You've got questions, We've got answers.

First time here hello!

If i submit my video will it automaticly be on the website or does someone review them first before people can vote on it? Also I want to submit for the ''Tick-Tock'' can i view movies that are already submited or do i have to wait until Dec 26th? And does the film fights intro also counts as the 35 seconds?

Re: Filmfights Q&A! You've got questions, We've got answers.

1) The videos are reviewed only for the purpose of being put in the LW or HW video class, not for approved or denied.
2) Youll need to wait for the December 26th deadline (posted usually at 1am central time) to watch the videos.
3) Since the intro is only about 1 second long I dont see it really affecting the time limit by much. Just make sure its close to 35 seconds. Dont go way over or way under, if you do youll automatically be placed in the LW class.
...pretty sure thats all correct.
Welcome to the site.  big_smile

Thanks Jesse!

Reading about the intro, are you allowed to have music (or sound) playing while the intro is on? And can you edit it slightly ? For example have blood splatter on it or having a camera disort. (The same effect if a camera gets hit by something) For a few frames?

YES - totally. Modification of the intro is heartily supported. Lots of groups have added their own touches to it in the past. It's one of the reasons I leave the audio blank. Have fun!

Re: Filmfights Q&A! You've got questions, We've got answers.

Why don't the rules say anything about requiring WIDESCREEN format, until you get to the point of submitting your video?

You can submit a full screen video, that's fine - I just want the video to be rendered out to 640x360 so it's not going to get squished.

Re: Filmfights Q&A! You've got questions, We've got answers.

You mean you don't care if it's letterboxed, you just don't want the video to be sized to a fullscreen format, right?

Re: Filmfights Q&A! You've got questions, We've got answers.

I agree, I think the rules post needs to be edited, informing people that their 4:3 videos need to be padded.
