Well, I was disabilitated Tuesday with a worse toothache than I even thought possible. My whole face was swollen. Anyways, today I went to Best Buy and bought a head cleaner. Didn't work. I tried it right in the parking lot, so I was able to bring it back inside. I thought they might clean it for me under the warranty, since I purchased an extra long one and never used it, but they still wanted to charge me like $40 to send it in a clean it, not even guaranteeing that would fix anything...and it would take up to six weeks (in my experience, Best Buy says a few weeks, it means a few months). I told them to fuck off, SOOOooo...no video for me. I have to shot a wedding in May...uh oh.
I am heart broken. I have been trying to get a music video fight to happen in here for over 3 years, no kidding.
So, enough excuses. I got one of the unused themes, and Thomas (Glossy Finish) must have gotten the other one. Sorry.
@Fuffuloo: Yeah, only forum members can vote. Sorry, there is no way really around that. Half of having these forums only fights was to promote people to join the forums, anyway.
Someone wants to make a good commercial, I will run it by Justin and see if we can get it put up. I set the vote at 10 days, but if we got a commercial up, I would extend it.
So...reviews. Love them all, btw.
EMMEREK:
Nice job on already having some proactive solution. Good beat and music. Did you make that? It is really good. Lyrics are really awesome, but a little quiet. The rapping part has some "Pop" to it. You can reduce that by putting something in between you mouth and your mic like you see in studios. Hilarious 70's porn special effects. Haha. Good song and lyrics. Some nice dancing. I'd say you have a hit!
Envelope Generator:
Nice tribute to Bob Dylan. I got the reference (obviously) right away. Contrary to what the words say, I thought your Bob impression was spot on. I have a friend who does a great, but very exaggerated Dylan at the karaoke bars. It always has people cracking up. Just like the original video, you did a very creative job with the pictures and words on the paper. Looks like you had some sort of frame skipping filter on this. It was a nice match with the scratched film look. I am glad you went subtle with the aged film effect. They don't have bologna in England? Not missing that much, I guess. I used to like it fried with scrambled eggs. Tastes kinda like thin sliced hotdogs (you have those, right?). Btw, you played this on guitar??? Very nice. I lied this quite a bit.
Zombie Gore Princess:
Nice modified intro. I can't hear you! haha. Loving the drawings. Reminds me of a lot of viral MS Paint cartoon comics I see online. I am glad you have the words so I know what you are saying, but still...I wish I could hear you better. The "Seriously" part made me giggle. There was one part where you kinda paused....I don't think it was intentional, so I would have edited that out. Good job coming up with a song for this criteria! Lyrics were great. Guitar music was nice, too. It was fantastic!
Benton Tarantella:
I knew from the opening line that you were assigned my criteria, because that line was part of the requirements. Some trivia, before my review, that line was derived from the line "With you dick on hard from fuckin your road dogs" in Dr. Dre's song "Dre Day". My friend's and I made a series of very random movies, where we just blurted out nonsensical stuff. That was something I said, and it just kinda stuck. In eary FAST Films movies, you will see they are produced by D.O.H. Productions (Dick on Hard). Haha. OK, enough about me.
FREAKING AWESOME!!! Tis was so good, it literally gave me goosebumps. I think this was a step up in editing for you. My favorite part, Dustin's head movements and facial expressions. Haha. I think that is really the selling point. Reminds me of some 80s video. I wanna say Eurythmics, but I don't think that's it. Anyway... That midi controller is almost just like mine, wish I knew how to use mine. One major beef, vocal track WAY too low. I had to struggle to hear Nalani signing. I still couldn't tell you what all the words in the chorus are. BTW, that is a SEXY chorus! The shots on the MATM stage really added a lot to this. The outside shots were really cool. Looks like you had trouble with some of your chroma (greenscreen) stuff. Lighting is proabbly the culprit. OK. I am going to rip on you in every video tiil you fix it. WHITE BALANCE! (It was hidden good, but I could tell where it was off). Good job with the writing and melodies. IF I could hear the vocals better, this is honestly a song I would listen to. Infact, I would like to request that you send me a version WITH the vocal track higher. I really love this song!
Man, I wish you guys lived a little closer. I wanna collab with you so bad. I think that would be so fun. Maybe next time I'm in Keokuk. Don't know when that will be, though.
Jessemount Pictures:
Some camera noise on the cuts in the opening scene. You make that book? If so, way to make the extra effort. I read a review saying that it was hard to hear the vocals on this, but I didn't really think so. I thought they were balanced pretty good. I think the problem is when the boy talks, it makes it hard to hear the voclas. In fact, I would have cut out all the outside audio on this. It is distracting. Very seldom do you hear background noises in music videos, and those are done with way higher quality mics. OK, THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME! You have kids, a gorilla costume, a scooter, a custom made book (?)...Did you get you own criteria or what?! I kid. Good video, super awesome song, mega spectacular props. Very excellent job!
OK...I gotta say. This was very hard for me to pick.
Best Video: Envelope Generator. First off, it was very clean. No mistakes. Well, you got behind on some of the papers, but I think that added to it...and you could easily say that was intentional. The audio and video was perfect. Lighting and sound. Teh effects were, well, effective, and subtle enough to not be overbearing. I think there is something to be said about doing a music video in one take, especially using the papers.
Best Song: Jessemount I thought you wrote a really awesome song for this. It was fairly professional sounding. Contrary to other reviews, I thought everything was balanced really good. It was creative and fit the criteria perfectly. Original music, right? (I didn't see any music credited, so I am assuming, here). I thought the beat was catchy and performed well.
Best Overall: Benton Tarantella I am not kidding, I got goosebumps listening to this the first time. I must have listened to it a 1000 times. The production quality of the audio and video was not perfect, but I think it was the marriage of the two that made this the ultimate entry for the week. I won't lie, I am being a little bias based on the fact that this was the criteria I submitted. The style of the music video was really perfect for the song. Both had a faux retro real to them. That chorus was so catchy, even though I am not really sure what all the words were. Reminds me of a song that would be on the Scarface soundtrack or Grand Theft Auto. Haha. Plus, Dustin's facial expressions and head movements.
Do you guys WANT me to make 3 polls? I would have to make two more threads, since each thread only allows one poll. Personally, I think it would be confusing and not really needed, but you guys are the ones who made all these awesome songs and videos. you choice. I need at least 5 yes's to make it happen.
