Re: MUSIC VIDEOS!!!

Awesome!  It was kinda hard, but I love a challenge!

I had a great idea last night.  We should put all our songs up for download or something and make a filmfights album!

Re: MUSIC VIDEOS!!!

I tested some footage using a brand new tape, today, and it was still all scrambled. I am going to buy a head cleaner tomorrow, to see if that works. If it doesn't, then I will at least post my song in here.

I will be so mad if I don't get to enter. I have literally waited years for this fight (see previous threads). And I made a custom wig for my character.

I absolutly love what you did with it! I'd love to know who mine came from.

okay hold on I'll go ahead and do the reviews of what's here and add jeremy's on when he gets it on here...

----------

As a whole everyone here are some talented mofo's it's not easy to write original songs, let alone good one's like all of these are. smile

Emmerek Entertainment:
hilarious! strange thing is, you could probably make some money with this as a viral add for Proactive, that's how funny and silly it is. big_smile

Envelope Generator:
Great stuff! a great Dylan parody. big_smile love the outtakes!

Zombie Gore Princess:
'twas mine ya'll!! lol. this was all done last minute (of course) and in one take. I added the caption in case you couldn't understand me. I named him Douglas because I thought the name sounded kinda funny for a Zombie. and the "friend" at the end was me pitched down really low. smile

Benton Tarantella:
First thing I thought was Lady Gaga singing about squirrels. haha!

Jessemount Pictures:
I came up with the strangest criteria, and you made it way better than I could have imagined.

Re: MUSIC VIDEOS!!!

Everyone's videos are great! Emmerek, you got our criteria! I was laughing pretty hard when i watched it. Tell me that you already had the Proactive, cause that stuff is pricey.

Seeing that the main fight was delayed we should get some play on the front page. Nothing big, just a link maybe. Letting new visiters know that video contests happen in the Forums too.

I'll review later.

Re: MUSIC VIDEOS!!!

Ok. SO, I loved everyone's films. I laughed at all of them, in a good way.
Quick Reviews:

Emmerek: You guys did so well with our criteria. And I loved that extended shot of you rubbing the solution on your cheek. It made me feel so awkward I just kept laughing.

Envelope: Mos Def awesome Bob Dylan sounds. I really enjoyed the song. It had great structure, and it was slightly informative(about you atleast).

Zombie: What a hard subject and your song was pretty awesome. I wish your voice could have been louder. The end zombie groan was hilarious.

Benton: Us! I didn't think Lady Gaga until you said that. I was trying for a shiny toy guns meets Kesha sort of thang. But, I definitely see the gaga-ism.

Jessemount: Another hard one and you did great. Instrumentals were fantastic, but, I wish I could have heard the vocals a little better. that might have been the style you were going for (seemed real punky). I felt like your Gorilla could have been more canadian, although I'm not sure how you can do that without just being so stereotypical, like the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games that got cut off for a some show that my mom probably loved, but I digress.

Great Effort had by all! I will probably watch all of them again, and again, and again, and again.

I also second the album idea. It could be the sweetest compilation album, this side of the mississippi. or something like that.

I like me.

Re: MUSIC VIDEOS!!!

yeah, I added the subtitles in case it was too quiet. I'll try and see if I can fix it. I do agree, an album would be pretty sweet! big_smile

*edit*
well, I did fix it, but I'm not gonna do the whole video over, so... here:

it even has an option to download it if you want. I love Aviary.com smile

Yeah, I have no idea how a Canadian mod boy got Idaho plates on his Vespa, I swear...  Oh yeah, and the lyrics are in the YouTube description if you couldn't understand the words, but yeah, that's what we were going for.

I'll do reviews later, I just got back from a Japanese speech contest, and it's late.

Re: MUSIC VIDEOS!!!

Reviews:

EmmerekandJohnny: We had three versions of the song, and i spent over 10 hours on the song alone. I'm pretty proud of it, im kinda sad that the green screen didn't totally work out tho. The ending was crappy tho.(already had the pro-active btw)

Envellope Generator: When I was younger dad used to entertain us with tapes he had of old music videos he recorded off tv. And when I watched this i was reminded of my childhood. So thanks for that. The video was nice, The part where the reel like rolls of the screen is nice. The instruments sound good, and its a great song. Its well synchronized too, it really looks like you're singing.  big_smile I liked it

Zombie Gore Princess: I Really liked this one, More the song than the video. Ive listened to it at least 8 times. At times you pause, which distracted me from the song. Small mistake. "He'd rather eat whole grains" is clever. The thing i like most about this one is that it's like a theme song. At the end of your song i can just hear an announcer guy saying "Last week on douglas the friendly zombie." Good.

Benton Tarantella: Ok, I'm not going to lie, it was hard for me to understand the lyrics. I understood "squirrel" and a couple other things but it was a good melody. Really nice location near the end where she is singing on a stage and the titles at the beginning and end made it look professional. good singer and Some pretty good effects used here. Cool.

Jessemount pictures: I liked the added effort with the book. the words sounded like a voice machine could have been saying them. This told a story, that was good, a lot of comedy, and it followed, it was like a montage. the melody was good, the shot where he throws the kid off the bike is well cut. And the boy gasping through the window i good too.

Okay so I wanted to know how long there is left to vote, because i was going to suggest to make a "commercial" type thing for the filmfights home page for this forum fight, what do you think?

Nobody got my criteria...

Re: MUSIC VIDEOS!!!

Yeah, nobody's done my criteria either...  And with the front page commercial-thing, I'm all for it.  I was actually thinking of just making one a day or two ago.

@Emmerek:  Yeah, we spent a good day on the book.  I personally like the way the voice sounds, but there's a reason it sounds that way, it was kinda a fluke.  Sore throat + 1:00 in the morning = cool grunge sound?  I worked really hard to get that bike scene right, and I redid the way I cut him gasping though the window like three times.  I'm glad you liked it!

Edit:  Question!  Can only members on the forum vote?  I have a lot of friends that want to vote for me, but I doubt they'd actually make accounts here...

Re: MUSIC VIDEOS!!!

Well, I was disabilitated Tuesday with a worse toothache than I even thought possible. My whole face was swollen. Anyways, today I went to Best Buy and bought a head cleaner. Didn't work. I tried it right in the parking lot, so I was able to bring it back inside. I thought they might clean it for me under the warranty, since I purchased an extra long one and never used it, but they still wanted to charge me like $40 to send it in a clean it, not even guaranteeing that would fix anything...and it would take up to six weeks (in my experience, Best Buy says a few weeks, it means a few months). I told them to fuck off, SOOOooo...no video  for me. I have to shot a wedding in May...uh oh.

I am heart broken. I have been trying to get a music video fight to happen in here for over 3 years, no kidding.

So, enough excuses. I got one of the unused themes, and Thomas (Glossy Finish) must have gotten the other one. Sorry.

@Fuffuloo: Yeah, only forum members can vote. Sorry, there is no way really around that. Half of having these forums only fights was to promote people to join the forums, anyway.

Someone wants to make a good commercial, I will run it by Justin and see if we can get it put up. I set the vote at 10 days, but if we got a commercial up, I would extend it.

So...reviews. Love them all, btw.

EMMEREK:
Nice job on already having some proactive solution. Good beat and music. Did you make that? It is really good. Lyrics are really awesome, but a little quiet. The rapping part has some "Pop" to it. You can reduce that by putting something in between you mouth and your mic like you see in studios. Hilarious 70's porn special effects. Haha. Good song and lyrics. Some nice dancing. I'd say you have a hit!

Envelope Generator:
Nice tribute to Bob Dylan. I got the reference (obviously) right away. Contrary to what the words say, I thought your Bob impression was spot on. I have a friend who does a great, but very exaggerated Dylan at the karaoke bars. It always has people cracking up. Just like the original video, you did a very creative job with the pictures and words on the paper. Looks like you had some sort of frame skipping filter on this. It was a nice match with the scratched film look. I am glad you went subtle with the aged film effect. They don't have bologna in England? Not missing that much, I guess. I used to like it fried with scrambled eggs. Tastes kinda like thin sliced hotdogs (you have those, right?). Btw, you played this on guitar??? Very nice. I lied this quite a bit.

Zombie Gore Princess:
Nice modified intro. I can't hear you! haha. Loving the drawings. Reminds me of a lot of viral MS Paint cartoon comics I see online. I am glad you have the words so I know what you are saying, but still...I wish I could hear you better. The "Seriously" part made me giggle. There was one part where you kinda paused....I don't think it was intentional, so I would have edited that out. Good job coming up with a song for this criteria! Lyrics were great. Guitar music was nice, too.  It was fantastic!

Benton Tarantella:
I knew from the opening line that you were assigned my criteria, because that line was part of the requirements. Some trivia, before my review, that line was derived from the line "With you dick on hard from fuckin your road dogs" in Dr. Dre's song "Dre Day". My friend's and I made a series of very random movies, where we just blurted out nonsensical stuff. That was something I said, and it just kinda stuck. In eary FAST Films movies, you will see they are produced by D.O.H. Productions (Dick on Hard). Haha. OK, enough about me.

FREAKING AWESOME!!! Tis was so good, it literally gave me goosebumps. I think this was a step up in editing for you. My favorite part, Dustin's head movements and facial expressions. Haha. I think that is really the selling point. Reminds me of some 80s video. I wanna say  Eurythmics, but I don't think that's it. Anyway... That midi controller is almost just like mine, wish I knew how to use mine. One major beef, vocal track WAY too low. I had to struggle to hear Nalani signing. I still couldn't tell you what all the words in the chorus are. BTW, that is a SEXY chorus! The shots on the MATM stage really added a lot to this. The outside shots were really cool. Looks like you had trouble with some of your chroma (greenscreen) stuff. Lighting is proabbly the culprit. OK. I am going to rip on you in every video tiil you fix it. WHITE BALANCE! (It was hidden good, but I could tell where it was off). Good job with the writing and melodies. IF I could hear the vocals better, this is honestly a song I would listen to. Infact, I would like to request that you send me a version WITH the vocal track higher. I really love this song!

Man, I wish you guys lived a little closer. I wanna collab with you so bad. I think that would be so fun. Maybe next time I'm in Keokuk. Don't know when that will be, though.

Jessemount Pictures:
Some camera noise on the cuts in the opening scene. You make that book? If so, way to make the extra effort. I read a review saying that it was hard to hear the vocals on this, but I didn't really think so. I thought they were balanced pretty good. I think the problem is when the boy talks, it makes it hard to hear the voclas. In fact, I would have cut out all the outside audio on this. It is distracting. Very seldom do you hear background noises in music videos,  and those are done with way higher quality mics. OK, THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME! You have kids, a gorilla costume, a scooter, a custom made book (?)...Did you get you own criteria or what?! I kid. Good video, super awesome song, mega spectacular props. Very excellent job!

OK...I gotta say. This was very hard for me to pick.

Best Video: Envelope Generator. First off, it was very clean. No mistakes. Well,  you got behind on some of the papers, but I think that added to it...and you could easily say that was intentional.  The audio and video was perfect. Lighting and sound. Teh effects were, well, effective, and subtle enough to not be overbearing. I think there is something to be said about doing a music video in one take, especially using the papers.

Best Song: Jessemount I thought you wrote a really awesome song for this. It was fairly professional sounding. Contrary to other reviews, I thought everything was balanced really good. It was creative and  fit the criteria perfectly. Original music, right? (I didn't see any music credited, so I am assuming, here). I thought the beat was catchy and performed well.

Best Overall: Benton Tarantella I am not kidding, I got goosebumps listening to this the first time. I must have listened to it a 1000 times. The production quality of the audio and video was not perfect, but I think it was the marriage of the two that made this the ultimate entry for the week. I won't lie, I am being a little bias based on the fact that this was the criteria I submitted. The style of the music video was really perfect for the song. Both had a faux retro real to them. That chorus was so catchy, even though I am not really sure what all the words were. Reminds me of a song that would be on the Scarface soundtrack or Grand Theft Auto. Haha. Plus,  Dustin's facial expressions and head movements.

Do you guys WANT me to make 3 polls? I would have to make two more threads, since each thread only allows one poll. Personally, I think it would be confusing and not really needed, but you guys are the ones who made all these awesome songs and videos. you choice. I need at least 5 yes's to make it happen.

Would anybody mind if I made a commercial?
and we made the whole song ourselves

Yeah, my dad was my composer on this one.  That's probably why it was perfect.

3 polls:  yes from me!

Also, it sounds like ZGP's trying to make a commercial, but I'll try if I have time tomorrow.

Re: MUSIC VIDEOS!!!

Ok, I'm downloading them now, in case I make a commercial.  Also, I was going to do reviews, but everything's pretty much covered, so I'll just add some thoughts, I guess...

Emmerek:  I liked yours.  It's kinda slow at some parts, but I personally like the song better than the video.  I lol'd at the rubbing on cheek for ten minutes part, though.

Envelope Generator:  Yours was my favorite, other than my own, of course.  I really liked both the song and the video.  Great Dylan impression, harmonica was a nice touch, too.

Zombie Gore Princess:  Yours was my sister's favorite.  She was singing one of the lines over and over at dinner the other day.  You should be proud.

Benton Tarantella:  Some of these camera shots were amazing.  I really liked the stage scene, too.  I loved the song, but the vocals were too quiet.  If you make a version of the song with the vocals brought up some, GIVE IT TO ME!

Me:  If I say anything here, I'll go off for a while tooting my own horn, so I'll just zip my lips.

Re: MUSIC VIDEOS!!!

So, I wanted to put the lyrics up here, so you guys know what I'm saying.

I got my...
I got my...
I got my...
I got my fur on hard from livin' with my road dogs, taming angles with my side step, steppin wide beyond the freezing winter snow, paws soaked, tail is steady, master shakin', on the edge of something dark, while holding on to nothing ready

Laying down the life above the lime light, mixing up my jewels to buy the visceral epiphany
I wanna be alive, I wanna be used, I wanna turn my tail up at the sign upon the view
the sight of sun will turn my rooting into fruitful abernathy's
acting poignant when I see a lovely nut upon the stalk of your tomb
eyes fixed on the womb, the tree holding the key to my heart, I knew it was you

Chorus) Turn your tail up to the night, and hold on steady, and hold on steady to light, the tree is home to my heart, the tree is home to us all, don't leave til winter is gone, don't leave, my squirrel

bridge) Turn up your eyes love, the snow falls tonight
Turn down your tail love, the others will fright
Turn up your eyes love, my squirrel sense is right
Breaking the fever, the snow will last forever

Chorus

I like me.

Re: MUSIC VIDEOS!!!

Commy on the way.  And by commy, I don't mean communist...
